Candle Troubleshooting

As each candle is individually hand poured it may contain slight imperfections. Please note that it is normal for soy wax to change colour and darken slightly over time. Soy wax is a natural product, and as it resets after a burn it may have a dimpled or uneven surface, this is completely normal, and will not affect the performance of your candle.

Why is my candle burning Black Smoke?

If your candle has started to burn black smoke it may be that your candle has been placed in a draughty area or your wick has now mushroomed. Simply trim the wick once cooled and or place your candle in a draught free area.

What is Mushrooming?

This is the term used to describe a candle wick that has while burning curled towards itself, in turn looking like a mushroom! This may even be the reason your candle has started burning black smoke. Simply blow your candle out and wait for it to solidify. Trim the wick down to approx. 5mm and wipe the inside of your candle jar with a tissue to remove any residual black soot. You are now ready to enjoy and light your candle again.

What is Tunnelling?

This is when your candle wax doesn’t melt evenly.

It shouldn't take more than 30 mins for a wax pool reaching the sides of the container to form.

Wax has a 'memory' - if a 'tunnel' forms, it will burn incorrectly ever after, wasting wax and ruining the full burn time your candle promised.

So how do you fix Tunnelling?

Firstly, the initial burn of your candle should be longer than about 30 mins so that the wax has time to melt and reach the edges.

Secondly, the wick may have not stayed centered while burning. To fix this simply blow your candle out and allow the wax to cool for a few minutes, gently ease the wick back into a central and upright position.

Why is wax melting only on one side of the candle?

This may be caused by the candle being placed in a draughty area or not on a stable level surface.

To fix - Blow the candle out and wait for it to cool before moving it to a more suitable position.

Or the candle wick is no longer in the central position.

To fix - Simply blow your candle out and allow the wax to cool for a few minutes, gently ease the wick back into a central and upright position.

The flame is really small or has blown out completely, why?

This may be caused by the candle being placed in a draughty area or not on a stable level surface.

To fix - Blow the candle out and wait for it to cool before moving it to a more suitable position.
